Caning and Cold Showers (33 minutes, 1992)

CalStar distributed “Caning and Cold Showers” in the US together with another video called “Victorian Interlude” as part of their “English Discipline” series (but CalStar changed the names of the performers as they often did) and excerpts of the movie are included in some of their "English Spankings Classics" and “Best of English Discipline” tapes.

I first saw  a 5-1/2 minute clip from “Caning and Cold Showers” on Spanking Tube under the title “The Caning of Flight Officer Fennington” years ago (but it's no longer available) and it became one of my favorites.  It is one of those movies that I remember very well even though I had never saw the entire movie until just recently.



It stars Sophie Fennington who was a very popular English spanking actress of the late eighties and early nineties along with her then husband Christian Fennington (one of the founders of Spanking for Pleasure) who also directed.  I was looking back at some older chat room posts not too long ago and I found a mention of an interview she had made about 1994.  I was able to locate the interview on the “Total Spankings” website (which I had never dealt with before) and I downloaded a copy.  It isn’t a great interview but it does have its moments.  She is fine but the interviewer is so determined to stick to his list of prepared questions that he completely ignores some obvious opportunities for some very interesting follow up questions.  “Canings and Cold Showers” was Ms Fennington most recent movie at the time of the interview and she talks about it toward the end.  She also suggests that it may be her last movie and I suspect it was since I have never heard of her appearing in any movie that she doesn’t mention during interview (I have subsequently learned that she made one more movies called "Room Service").

Listening to this interview gave me the incentive to track down a copy of “Caning and Cold Showers”.  Soon after that I found that it was also available for download from “Total Spankings” (but that website is now gone). According to the end credits, the video was made by Talion Production which is now part of (or associated with) Spanking for Pleasure.   No date is given but, based on the date of the interview and other information it must have been about 1992.  I suspect we have all had the experience of liking a movie clip but finding the rest of the movie wasn’t as good as the clip. Despite a slow beginning “Caning and Cold Showers” definitely lived up to my expectations and I’m glad I finally found a copy of this classic.

 
The story is rather simple, Ms Fennington plays an RAF Flight Officer is being considered for a special position but she must first demonstrate her ability to resist ‘forceful’ interrogation techniques.   The movie begins with her preparing for her final test; I usually like stories that have a setup but 3 minutes of her putting on makeup and smoking a cigarette isn’t really what I wanted.  Finally, she is called in for the test and after a short interview with the examiner she is told to undress.  She is ordered to bend over a table.  Sophie Fennington had a reputation for being able to withstand very severe punishment and this caning reinforces that reputation.  She is given over 50 hard strokes of the cane over the course of nearly 20 minutes.  The caning doesn’t reach ‘Mood Pictures’ severity but it is a very severe caning.  The slow pace of the caning is something she discusses in the interview.  After the caning she is sent to take a cold shower in a scene that lasts about 2 minutes.  The movie ends with her fixing her makeup and leaving the test centre.

The technical quality of the movie isn’t up to the standard I would expect today.  The lighting is poor (but adequate), there is a noticeable background ‘hiss’ on the soundtrack and there are a couple of very abrupt edits. 



UPDATE:  A February 4, 2018 tweet from Spanking for Pleasure (posted below) talks about a planned final 'debriefing' scene that had to be abandoned.
