‘CP Research Institute’ is a 57-minute movie made by Cavern Spanking (on-line catalogue number CAV30) in November 1997 according to the disclosure statement on the CalStar release. To the best of my knowledge, this movie was never included in any of the Moonglow North Compendium tapes nor has it been released under any other name but I have seen two slightly different versions of this movie so I suspect that there is at least one other version beside the CalStar release. I assume that the other release was the original UK release and I will call it the original release below. The CalStar release is currently available on several video-on-demand sites such as www.hotmovies.com.
The movie involves four characters, Dr. Ward, the proprietor of the CP Research Institute, played by a Cavern regular, Adrian and his wife Anna, and a nurse named Tracy, played by Alison Payne, who was sent to Dr. Ward by her employer.
‘CP Research Institute’ consists of two related segments. The first, and longest, segment involves Dr. Ward, Sir Adrian and Anna (Tracy is standing bottomless facing the wall at the beginning of the segment but she has no lines). The original release includes a short, 50 second long, scene that is missing from the CalStar release. Sir Adrian returns home in a police uniform to find that his wife sitting smoking a cigarette and the house in a mess. That quickly leads to an attempt at a spanking but she pays little attention to him. That 50-second scene ends with a sign on the door to the CP Research Institute. Inside we see Adrian sitting talking to Dr. Ward with Tracy standing bottomless behind them. They chat for a little over 4 minutes before Anna arrives. Tracy is told she is finished for the day and sent off as soon as Anna arrives. Dr. Ward has Adrian demonstrate how he punishes Anna so he can examine his technique. Adrian starts by taking Anna over his knee and a lengthy but light hand spanking follows. Dr. Ward gives some advice and eventually takes over to demonstrate proper technique.Around the 16-minute mark of the movie they decide to move on to a strap. Adrian has brough his own leather belt from home but Dr. Ward suggests they start with one of his small leather straps. Next comes the tawse and then a larger leather strap and they end with Adrian’s leather belt. They have her remove her skirt and lie on the desk for the belt but that isn’t a good position for the camera.
Now they move on to the cane. This scene starts with an awkward bit of dialogue that drags on almost 4 minutes, and the camera goes out of focus a couple of times during this, but the doctor changes his mind and decides to demonstrate the diaper position before the caning begins. Both administer a couple of dozen strokes of the strap before returning to the cane. After more chatter they finally decide to have her bend over and lean on the couch for 18 strokes of the cane but again this isn’t the best choice for the camera. Adrian begins the caning; his strokes are hard but his aim is wild and, after 9 strokes, Dr. Ward comments on his accuracy. Another 2 strokes follow but both are wild. Dr. Ward administers the final strokes and he has her count them. The camera is on her face for the first five but the lighting is very dark. At the end, Adrian decides that a few more strokes are in order so she bends over the desk for another 5 strokes then the scene fades out at the 43:30 mark. After we see a handwritten tittle card that reads ‘Last Lesson the Cane’ the movie continues with Dr. Ward and Tracy. This seems to be in a different location and time than earlier because the walls are now yellow rather than blue and Tracy is wearing a different dress. Tracy’s employer has sent her to see Dr. Ward after see was caught in a ‘compromising position’ in the office with her boyfriend and from their conversation it sounds as though this is their first meeting, but later they mention a previous session. Dr. Ward has decided that Tracy will be caned and he has her bend over a chair. Once again, the camera work could be better. After 16 strokes he has her stand and lean on the wall for another 27 strokes. At the end he has her stand against the wall with her hands on top of her head which is how we first saw her earlier in the movie, I assume is supposed to tie the two parts of the movie together but it doesn’t. Finally, there is an awkward cut and she is back leaning on the wall then the movie ends abruptly. This awkward bit of editing is missing from the CalStar release.I wasn’t impressed with this movie for several reasons. First, I just don’t like this scenario and I never have. I can’t take it seriously and it always seems to lead to some painfully awkward dialogue. Second there are problems with the cinematography and editing. The camera positions and framing are poor, the lighting is sometimes dark and the camera goes out of focus on occasion. I recently found reason to believe that there was more than one film maker who worked with Cavern and that may explain why some Cavern movies seem very well made while others look like an amateur effort. This is one of the later.
