Troublesome Daughters

‘Troublesome Daughters’ is a 25-minute long movie made by George Harrison-Marks (GHM) about 1988.  It was released by Kane International (catalogue number 14) in the UK and a collection of photographs from the movie appears in issue number 39 of Kane magazine.  The movie was also released by CalStar in the US as English Spanking Classics #17 (along with Sugar Cane Jane) and that release is currently available on several ‘video on demand’ site such as www.hotmovies.com.

In my last post I mentioned that I was reworking my dating of the Kane movies.  Starting with Kane 29, GHM published photographs from his movie in each issue of the magazine and the appearance of these photostories is a good indicator of when the movie was released.  The only problem is that he doesn’t put dates on the issues.  I knew that he began Kane magazine after he left Janus in the fall of 1982 and two biographies say that Kane 69 was at the printers when he died in June 1997.  If so, he produced 69 issues in something like 14-1/2 years which is 4.75 issues per year.  However, I suspected that the rate of production fell in the last few years but I didn’t know by how much.  Over Christmas I had the opportunity to flip through a number of printed issues of the magazine and I picked up a few clues.  Kane 50 contains an announcement of a Kane Club member’s event in September 1989 and Kane 52 contains an announcement of a ‘new 1990 release’ (‘Take three Girls’) as well as a letter about a member’s event in December 1989.  Based on that information I concluded that Kane 51 was probably the last issue of 1989.  That would mean 51 issues in just over 7 years, or 7 issues per year.  The magazine also promotes a subscription offer, subscribe to 6 issues and receive a 7^th issue free; that would have been an annual subscription, which makes sense.  I have reworked the release dates based on that publication frequency during the 80s and updated the previous posts.  The magazine must have ben published less frequently during the 90s but I’m still trying to work that out.  

‘Troublesome Daughters’ begins with the butler enjoying a glass of his employer’s Scotch in the drawing room when the lord of the manor phones to say that he will be arriving home soon.  The tells his employer that there have been problems between the new Governess and the Lord’s daughters and that he will explain when the Lord returns home.  He finishes his drink just as the Governess, Miss Prism, arrives (GHM obviously knows Oscar Wilde).  The Butler demands that Miss Prism explain why she punished the Lord’s daughter contrary to his expressed wishes.  Miss Prism informs him of an affair between the daughter and a member of the staff and accuses the Butler of failing to maintain proper order in the house.  A heated argument ensues and it ends with Miss Prism storming out of the room.

We cut to a bedroom where the Lord’s daughter (who is obviously not a teenager) is in the midst of an erotic telephone conversation with her boyfriend when the Butler walks in.  He is, of course outraged by what he finds and he decides that a good spanking is in order and a hand spanking, delivered in two parts, follows.  His Lordship arrives home just after the midpoint of the movie and he noises from his daughter’s bedroom and he charges in to find the Butler still spanking her.  He demands to know what has been going on and, when he finds out, he orders the Butler to continue spanking his daughter while he storms off to find Miss Prism.

Miss Prism arrives and his Lordship reminds her that he had strictly forbidden the use of corporal punishment so, as we might expect, he decides to punish her.  He has her bend over a chair and he takes out a slipper that his father used on him.  He delivers ten swats with a very exaggerated motion that looks quite forceful but probably wasn’t.  He has her stand and another ten swats follow.  The scene ends with his Lordship fondling Miss Prism’s bottom in an exaggerated state of arousal.    

This movie is a rather pointless little bit of fluff.  The story is fine but the punishments are nothing special and whoever plays the Lord overacts almost to the point of being comic.  The actress playing the daughter is too old to play a teenager (a second daughter is mentioned but never seen).  I have a copy of the CalStar English Spanking Classics version that I downloaded from hotmovies.com and the sound is terrible.  I have never been able to find a copy of the Kane International release but I hope it is better.
